Dr. Shasta E. Henderson was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She attended Barnard College of Columbia University where she was a four year member of their Division 1 basketball team. It was her athletic pursuit and zeal for science that initially introduced her to the field of Orthopedics. After graduation she moved to Winston-Salem, NC where she attended Wake Forest School of Medicine. While a medical student, Dr. Henderson participated in research at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine and founded The Pipeline a student run mentorship program in support of minority medical student retention.

Following medical school Dr. Henderson began her Orthopedic Residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, a busy level 1 trauma center. At Yale, under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Baumgaertner (former President of AO North America) and Dr. Michael Leslie, her interest in Orthopedic Trauma blossomed as the ability to employ elegance and artistry in the operating room towards the management of complicated fractures excited her. Additionally, she gained exposure to anterior total hip arthroplasty while working with Dr. Kristaps Keggi, an early adopter and pioneer of the direct anterior approach. During residency she participated in research utilizing a diabetic mouse model to assess the impact of local PTH application on fracture healing rates. In her final year she served as chief resident and was involved in the management and delivery of the resident curriculum. After completion of her residency, she pursued a fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma at the Penn State Milton Hershey Medical Center with Dr. J. Spence Reid which offered exposure to multiply injured patients as well as nonunion, malunion, and deformity correction.

Dr. Henderson’s clinical interests include care of the polytrauma patient, pelvic/acetabular fractures, periarticular fractures, nonunions, malunions, and anterior hip replacement.

Dr. Shasta E. Henderson prides herself on the delivery of patient centric care that not only takes into account the diagnosis, but tailors decision making to the patient’s specific long term goals.
